Carrasqueira Palafitic Pier in Comporta

If you’re looking for a place to go on a winter’s day, we suggest you visit the pier built on stilts in Carrasqueira, in Alcácer do Sal, 21 km (25 minutes) from Troia.
It is one of the municipality’s most popular sites, as it is considered a work-of-art of popular architecture, built in the 1950s and 60s on irregular wooden stilts, apparently fragile, where the local fishing boats dock. Nowadays, the pier on stilts in Carrasqueira is some hundreds of meters long. Feel free to walk on the pier to see the boats and watch some of the bird species of the Sado estuary.

Enjoy the fantastic sunset on the walkway.
Directions: Carrasqueira is a village approximately 3 Km from Comporta and around 20 Km from
Troia. Leaving Troia and heading to Carrasqueira, the road signs will direct you to the pier on stilts.
